PRL02 Pearls: Medical Dermatology
DESCRIPTION
Medical pearls for dermatologists are actually shared experiences. Pearls and tips originate from experiences in clinic, in research, and even in relationships with patients, and the pearls of what not to do are often more salient than those of what to do. This session will bring a variety of pearls that will optimize patient outcomes and safety, while exploring the myths, misconceptions, and realities of comfort level of dermatologists for optimizing systemic therapies. The themes of “don’t be afraid” and the costs of not treating patients compared to costs to the system will be explored.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Apply the mechanisms of therapy to the mechanisms of disease to counter the process and not just the immediate presentation.
Develop opportunities for expanding treatment algorithms based on long-term safety and FDA approvals based on research data.
Compare and formulate the costs of not treating patients aggressively to the perceived costs to the system of therapies that are effective in dermatology.
