POH02 Bridging the Gap: The Art of Caring for Underserved Dermatology Patients
DESCRIPTION
This session focuses on addressing inequities in dermatologic care and translating awareness into practical, systems-based solutions. Part 1 explores key drivers of disparities, including social determinants of health, workforce and insurance barriers, delayed diagnoses in skin of color, and opportunities to improve access through flexible scheduling, teledermatology, clinical trials, and technology-enabled workflows. Part 2 addresses financial and insurance barriers, including prior authorizations, patient assistance programs, specialty pharmacy pathways, and real-world case examples. Part 3 focuses on post-prescription barriers, highlighting strategies to improve adherence and outcomes through simplified regimens, care coordination, pharmacy collaboration, and patient-centered support systems. Intended for dermatology clinicians and healthcare teams.
