DESCRIPTION

Using clinical cases, classic and atypical presentations of cutaneous manifestations of autoimmune connective tissue diseases will be emphasized. This session will offer practical tips for diagnosis, appropriate evaluation, and advanced therapeutic management of both adult and pediatric patients with connective tissue diseases affecting the skin. Audience self-assessment will be encouraged through image review, and a case-based approach will be utilized to highlight relevance for the dermatology trainee or experienced clinician. Cases discussed will include those focusing on dermatomyositis, cutaneous lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis, eosinophilic fasciitis, and morphea, amongst others.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1.

Identify and diagnose classic and atypical presentations of cutaneous manifestations of autoimmune connective tissue diseases in both adults and children.

2.

Select management options for skin involvement in complex connective tissue diseases based on the best available evidence from the literature.
