F044 Turning Confusion Into Confidence: A Dermatologist’s Guide to Genital Dermatoses and Gender Identity
DESCRIPTION
Anogenital dermatoses often present a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge for dermatologists. Mechanical friction, moisture, occlusion, and physiologic irritants change the appearance of otherwise classic presentations of skin disease, making diagnosis by inspection alone more difficult. In this session, we will give an overview of gender identity and highlight how it relates to an effective genital examination and the treatment of genital skin disorders. We will review the most common genital dermatoses, variations in normal anatomy, discuss strategies to improve diagnostic accuracy, and provide algorithms to optimize treatment of each of the anogenital dermatoses.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Recognize normal and abnormal variations in genital skin
Differentiate amongst common genital skin disorders and describe treatment options for each
Identify how gender identity relates the genital exam and treatment of genital skin disorders
