U016 Skin and the Heart
DESCRIPTION
The session covers concomitant skin and heart involvement in various genetic diseases with overlapping manifestations of the skin and heart but also inflammatory and infectious diseases that may induce both skin and cardiac clinical manifestations. Furthermore, the session will include cardiac complications induced by drugs used in dermatology. The topics will be illustrated by selected impactful clinical cases aiming to offer a broader perspective to the dermatologists who need to manage very complex situations during their daily practice.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Recognize the complexity of the systemic inflammatory syndrome in inflammatory skin disease (psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, etc) and the impact on the treatment choice
Describe the connection between the various treatment options and their impact on the cardiac function and to illustrate how complex treatment approaches need a very thorough knowledge of the interplay between skin function and cardiac function
Familiarize the audience with cardio-cutaneous syndromes and other genetic disorders affecting both organs
