DESCRIPTION

Atopic dermatitis is one of the most commonly encountered diagnoses in the treatment of skin disease in children. There are numerous considerations to take into account regarding young children, including the effects of topical and systemic therapies, parental concerns and treatment preferences, and role of allergies in eczema, including the role of the dermatologist in reducing the burden of the atopic march. This session is directed towards all practitioners who see children with atopic dermatitis as part of their practice and will provide various pearls to effectively manage pediatric eczema.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1.

Review the literature regarding safety and efficacy of topical and systemic medications for atopic dermatitis in young children.

2.

Evaluate the role of allergies in patients with atopic dermatitis and when to suspect concurrent atopic disorders.

3.

Discuss current controversies in the management of atopic dermatitis, highlighting the current literature.
